JLL-Analysis: Student housing transaction market

The German student housing market is gaining pace: between 2011 and 2015 the transaction volume has quadrupled, but with € 525 million the market size is still very small, particularly compared with the UK volume (2015: € 6.3 billion). Only in the last two years an institutionalization and professionalization of this special sector has taken place. On the seller side private developers are the dominating group. The purchaser side can be characterized as a little more differentiated. Besides local private investors, institutional investors such as insurances, pension funds or special funds as well as cross-border investors are active on the market.
